6 Must Have Items For Newborns

Newborns don't really need a lot of gear the first few weeks at home. Despite the temptation to buy all the fabulous outfits and high-tech gadgets available, a few basics are all you and your newborn need. Here is a list of my personal must-have items and the things I tell all the new mama's they need for their new bundle of joy!

1. Rocker

A rocker, just like the one above, not your typical cradle, a "rocker", is probably the one item I cannot recommend enough!! I didn't have one on my baby shower registry, but thankfully one of my besties bought me one anyway. It sat in the corner of my daughters nursery since I assumed it would never get used! My parents bought my daughter my dream crib and we had a beyond fabulous, Pinterest-worthy bassinet for our bedroom. Fast forward to my daughters first night at home. Hubby and I quickly realized bassinets and cribs were a fight to get my daughter to sleep in. That's when the super simple, plain ole rock'n'play came into the picture. 2. Swaddle Blankets

Swaddle blankets are such a strange thing to new moms. My hubby and I both thought these blankets must be torture for little ones! Wrapped up to the point they can't move! However, babies really do love them. Your baby will sleep so much better all swaddled in their blanket! Definitely a must have!!! Buy a few since I guarantee baby slobber and puke will end up on any of them.

3. Video Monitor

This item is more for you than the little one mama! After that first week of just starring at your baby all day, you will eventually need to shower and get some housework done! Your video monitor will give you peace of mind while your little one naps so you can venture into the kitchen to wash that sink of bottles and dishes!

4. Hats

Hats are a must have!!!! Summer time? If you run that A/C, your newborn needs a hat! I like my house feeling like an icebox during the summer, so my daughter was always dressed as if she were in Antarctica while indoors. Winter time? It's cold and your newborn needs it's head covered! That's just common sense there ;-)

5. Onsies

Don't be like me and go on a newborn clothing shopping spree! Save that cash, ditch 95% of those fancy dresses and stock up on cute onesies! I guarantee you won't be taking your newborn out of the house as much as you think, so no need for all the fancy outfits.
