Ahhhhhh, summer time!!! Living in Western New York, we can't wait for summer to hit. We can FINALLY leave our homes after hibernating all winter and enjoy the fabulous outdoors! Ok, hibernation might be a tad bit of an exaggeration, but we mind as well join the Bears in their winter slumber since winter weather in just unbearable.
Once the sun was finally shining and school was out, my lil'family started our summer travels. Our second trip of the season happened to be to National Harbor, Maryland. About 5-10 minutes outside of Washington DC!
While looking for 5 year old friendly things to do in the National Harbor area, we came across Boating in DC. I happened to see pedal boat rentals and knew right then we had add Boating in DC to our itinerary! Pedal boating as a family was an activity we had never engaged in previously so it would be pretty exciting. My water loving daughter would definitely get a kick out of pedal boating. Plus it would be pretty neat to say we pedaled away on the Potomac River.

Enjoy National Harbor’s waterfront with Boating in DC! Rent a kayak, pedal boat, or stand-up paddleboard, or take on the sights with an evening kayak tour. Boating in DC also offers unlimited season passes, introductory lessons and classes such as SUP Yoga. Open May – September, paddling is a great way to stay active and do some exploring on your own! Rentals include lifejacket and paddle.
RATE: $30/hr (4 passenger boat) Pedal Boats are fun way to take a relaxing, leisurely pedal on the water and see the sights. Great for all ages! **Price does not include tax. Minimum rental 1 hour, prorated every 10 minutes after that. All-day rental rate is 4x hourly rate. 
Once we were in National Harbor, that's when I noticed Boating in DC offered both swan AND dragon pedal boats and not those average, plain Jane pedal boats you see all over. We were all pretty ecstatic since this was the first time we had ever spotted a dragon pedal boat!!! My husband and I definitely shared a dorky, nerd moment over the dragon pedal boats that's for sure. Nothing like feeling like a kid again while on vacation! After all, how many people can say they have riden a dragon? We felt sorta special.

Do it!!!!!! I still look at our Boating in DC Pedal Boat photos saved on my phone since they bring a giant smile to my face when I peak at them. We had a totally awesome time filled with smiles and giggles.
The Pedal Boat rental was an hour long, but we started to feel the burn in our legs abut 45 minutes in, so we called it quits. My husband and I aren't exactly in the best of shape so our legs were definitely feeling all that pedaling! The weather was also beautiful the day of our Potomac River adventure, so we had a pretty fabulous view of National Harbor and the Capital Eye from the river. I would totally do this excursion again if the opportunity were to ever arise again!

Aww this looks like so much fun! I've never been on a paddle boat, but I always want to go on one when I see it (I'll convince my boyfriend one day aha). Such a fun Summertime activity to enjoy with your family. :)
