I spent a good chunk of my life dancing & cheering. Thankfully when I was in middle school & high school, we had some pretty awesome parents who made fundraising a pretty simple task. A weekend of tag days & hot dog stands at our local Walmart & we were left thinking we actually made afew thousand dollars. All these years later we all look back and realize that was all due to afew very generous parents and there totally awesome donations. Thanks for always providing the best of everything for us :)
Fast forward to me going into the dance world after High School. Funding isn't exactly there for dance teams. No matter if it's a professional sports team or a local minor or arena league, dancers are left having to pay for everything. Even the Cowboys cheerleaders & Laker girls PAY OUT OF POCKET for almost everything they do. Dance team members are constantly left scheming ways to fundraise for everything from uniforms, to calendar shoot destinations, even props to use in routines. I've even heard of some dance teams having to fundraise for practice space slots at local gyms. Pretty sickening if you think about how much these sports teams make a year & they provide pretty much nothing but a name and title to the girls.
I was lucky to have danced for both a football arena league dance team & a minor league hockey dance team & fundraising & finding sponsors was a nonstop mission for us. Everything from poms to tracksuits cost money. Unfortunately fundraising for adult organizations is a tad bit more difficult than kiddo ones, you can't just stand outside of a store begging for change like the midget leagues, so trying to find sponsors is the key to not feeling like you're degrading yourself, since you are an adult and all. Just easier said than done. ;-)
When I first found out about Pear I thought this all sounded too good to be true! A company that helps connect local youth AND adult teams with potential sponsors ONLINE using social media?!?! Pretty amazing if you ask me! Don't believe me? Read below and check there website out yourself! I wish something like this was around when I was dabbling in the dance world. An answer to all fundraising prayers!
Pear is an online site that will allow you to set up an account for your team to raise money by using social networking. It’s very easy to navigate and the application is easy for parties to use. With so many sponsors out there your team is sure to get the donations they need. Just set up a Pear account and allow the team to interact with the brand online, liking their social media pages, watching a video or completing a survey. The team harnesses the power of their community to earn dollars….awesome right! Just think, the more people who complete the simple online tasks, the more dollars the group earns.
Pear makes it easy to utilize the power of your social network. No door to door, no bake sales, no handling of money by kids….it’s just a new, simple way to support your team or organization without all the hassle. Pear makes sponsorship easy for groups and events of all shapes and sizes. Find a sponsor in less than 60 seconds and activate your community to raise up to $1,000 or more toward custom apparel, donations, gift cards and more from a national brand or local business near you. So the next time your kiddo, coach or community director sends home paperwork asking you to support the team by baking or selling candy, tell them you’ve found an easier solution called Pear that works great! This is a wonderful opportunity for organizations to put their needs out there. It's also a great way for people to give back.

When I was in high school, our marching band/color guard got invited to the macy's day parade at Thanksgiving. They didn't do a big fundraising effort, though, and we ended up not going because not every parent could afford to send their kids. It sucked.

I will keep this in mind when my niece would participate in fund raising activities at school. I usually end up buying all her cookies because I do not have time to call or walk around the neighborhood selling cookies for her. I will give Pear a thorough look through.

Anything like this that can help raise funds and promote awareness is good as long as it is also for a good cause and as a means to mislead and scam people. Use responsibly.

You are right fundraising is difficult. Even for kids. This site seems amazing and I will definitely recommend it to others who need help in that area.

Sounds like a great company to be apart of. Fundraising has already started with the schools here. It's kind of hard to keep up with them all.

I learned so much from this post – I had no idea that dancers like the infamous dancers from the Lakers and Cowboys pay out of pocket…really? With all the money the sports teams make…crazy! Very cool to have an outlet for adult dance teams.

I cheered in college, and we had to do that to get practice space at the gym. Our time was 10:30 pm - 11:45 pm! Talk about a long day!! Now my daughter is starting all star cheerleading and my son plays football, basketball, and lacrosse, so we are fundraising yet again! I will tell the coaches about Pear!

Thanks for the link and a great example of success! I could never imagine such a thing. That's really a fantastic opportunity. If we can raise more than $1 000, that would be really a miracle.
