Tis the season of all things hearts & pink! Is it strange that I love all things Valentines Day related, candy hearts, Kiddie school valentines parties, all things hearts shaped!!!!!! Ahhhhh makes me so excited thinking about all the fabulousness, yet I kinda get annoyed with the actual day! Pink and hearts are the best things ever, but I hate the idea that one day out of the year you're suppose to be all extra mushy because the card companies say so. So I guess you can say I celebrate Valentine's Day more for the fun colors than the mush.
While on my weekly trip to Walmart last week, yes you heard correct, unfortunately Antarctica is a Target-less area, I just happened to walk by a display of heart shaped cookie cutters! Obviously since I just have to buy all things heat shaped, into my cart they went!
I really didn't know what to use the heart shaped cookie cutters for, I suck at baking & pancakes ugh.... 50/50 chance I can actually flip the thing and have it still resemble the shape it's suppose to be. Yes even with the cutter. I'm not lying when I say I don't have a baking or anything dough related gene. So in my kitchen drawer they went.
Then Sunday when I was preparing brunch for my Lil'fam it hit me! I could totally slice the watermelon up into hearts. I make Watermelon Cupcakes ( a slice of watermelon with frosting and sprinkles) that I use my funky circle cutters for.... I can totally make heart watermelon chunks with my new and adorable heart cutter!
Easy Peasy to do! Just take a slice of watermelon and poke the cutter threw! Not going to lie though, you do end up wasting a lot of the watermelon since you are cuting perfectly shaped hearts, but does it really matter since this is the cutest watermelon you have ever seen ;-)
So next time you want to spice up your fruit cocktail or want to impress your friends with your food craftiness, I hope you remember this post and totally blow them away with watermelon hearts! Totally Instagram worthy of you ask me ;-)

How pretty! and so easy. My kids would love this! thanks for sharing
Love the idea. But I felt an instant connection when I read that you have trouble flipping pancakes. Oh the pain of it. Yet I see others do it like master chefs, it really hurts not to be good at this flipping. However now I can compensate with watermelon hearts. There would never be a waste as I would be eating the bits that aren't heart shaped while preparing. Thanks for a great post.

Awesome! I have heart shape cookie cutters too! This would be a great alternative to making cookies with the kids. They loved those edible arrangements, but they are so expensive. Making our own homemade version is just as good for both our stomachs and pocket.
