Spring is finally here & summer is right around the corner! Summer is a huge travel season for us. The time of year we hit the road & see what this fabulous world has to offer while making memories that last a lifetime.
In this day in age it's no secret that we all have a little bit of screen addiction. In most cases our love of holding our beloved phone is just that, addiction, but when on the road having the right phone is an absolute must! You just never know when your will need to pull up maps, Instagram that pic of a new state sign, make a tow truck call, or even worse, your child might be screaming bored for the umpteenth time & you need instant app entertainment to save your ear drums.
Since my phone has to take on so many roles on our family road trips, the mobile plan it comes with has to be a fabulous one. Something with a beyond fabulous talk, text and data plan at an affordable price is an absolute must! Road trips aren't cheap so the more I save on a phone, the more memories we can make exploring.
Since getting into a contract where I’m required to stay on a phone plan for what may as well be the rest of my life sounds like a complete nightmare, the Walmart Family Mobile PLUS Plan is a fabulous option for this mama! There are no contracts & it's a post-paid plan, which is beyond amazing since who knows what life will look like a year from now!!! You can adjust your plan and even your phone as your needs & life change. When the time comes for my Princess to get her own phone, I can even add a separate line to the plan for her as well.
Disclaimer: All prices for phones and plans included in this post are accurate as of the date of posting; however, these prices are subject to change. Please refer to http://cbi.as/3edbl or your local Walmart for current pricing.
Finding the phones is an easy peasy task! Just walk into your local Walmart and head to the entertainment section. Once you enter the entertainment section just look for the Walmart Family Mobile signage. In my local Walmart the phones were located next to the cashier stand in the entertainment section & there are quite a few fabulous phones to choose from! I went with the Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime since Galaxy phones are all the rage in these parts and at the price point of $99 (on rollback from $149) it was worth giving it a shot & seeing what all the hype is about!
All together, I left Walmart with the phone ($99) and a starter kit ($19.88 on rollback from $25 until July 7th, that's right, cheaper than ever before!) which cost me a total of $118.88 before tax. The low cost, but high quality of the phones associated with the Walmart Family Mobile PLUS is what amazes me. I'm notorious for phone accidents, so with my not so squeaky clean track record, hubby definitely appreciates it when I can purchase things that won’t cost me a fortune to replace.
To use the phone, you now have to decide on a plan & honestly with Walmart Family Mobile that was really the easiest part. For $49.88 per month, you can get UNLIMITED talk, text & data with up to 10GB of 4G LTE data. That means that I can Instagram as many travel pics as I want, my daughter can stay entertained with her favorite apps, hubby can look up directions if we get off track and we can make any emergency calls we may need while on the road!
And if that wasn’t enough “value”, when you purchase the Walmart Family Mobile PLUS plan, with each month of paid service, you get a FREE movie rental code, a $7 value, for a new release from VUDU (one per a line!) So after a long day of travel, I can sink into the hotel bed with hubby and my laptop for some quality time after the munchkin falls asleep. After all the craziness a day on the open road can bring, there is nothing I want more than to just be lazy and watch a movie with my hubby, so the free VUDU movie rental is just icing on the cake.
The key to successful travel with a todder is nonstop entertainment & being prepared for any situation. With a trip coming up for us in just a few weeks, I figured I would give y'all a peak inside our daughters travel bin, beyond the fabulous phone.
To start off the trip, I usually buy a few random CHEAP items for my daughter to open while on the road! A road trip present! Usually something she can color, read & a fun snack she normally wouldn't get. You will be shocked how well this $3 gift will keep your chid entertained!
Let's talk the non-fun stuff!!! You just never know when strange things can happen so be prepared. I usually pack a pack of wipes to clean up any messes along with a box of tissues, boggie wipes just in case the change in climate/temperature causes a stuffy nose, a non-spill cup to save my car from liquid messes, hand sanitizer to kill travel germs & a roll of toilet paper just in case we are in the middle of no where and can't find a rest room right away. Unfortunately toddlers do not wait, so that roll of toilet paper will save you a lot of trouble!
Next I make sure to pack all the right chargers with a car adaptor. Books I won't be heart broken if my daughter leaves them behind, some of her favorite toys that again I won't cry if she loses & then a clip board with a case of crayons, a coloring book & some plain white paper for my daughter to scribble on.
When hitting the road you just never know what weather you will be driving into so it's always safe to bring a change of clothes & a hoodie/jacket that you can easily get to. Also a blanket will save you when you kid decides she's cold when it's a million degrees outside and the a/c is a must ;-)
What's a road trip without snacks?!?! Just like you enjoy snacking on the road, your toddler does too! This basket hack is probably one of the greatest travel kiddie hacks I have ever stumbled across! Take a mini basket and your child now has someplace to hold their food! No more trying to balance everything on their lap like mama! Your car floor will definitely thank you for this.
So let's chat!!!
Are you hitting the road this summer? Are you looking for a new cellphone provider?

I used to use Walmart's unlimited plan for a while...a good option for contract-free phone service. I know in a couple years my kiddo will start bugging me for his own phone and like hell I'm gonna spend a ton on one he will most likely lose or break. This is the way to go! Love the toddler travel bin too!

I'm so over my plan, well, our family plans and our service provider. I wish Walmart in Canada offered this, I need to look into it because it sounds worth changing!

Our family does a lot of vacations. Most of them are just small road trips for the weekend somewhere. But we need to make a box with all sorts of stuff in it like this because her son would love that. We already have a phone but if I ever do need to find another one I will check them out.

Plans from Walmart are too fascinating and affordable. The 4G LTE data plan by them is cost effective. I am really impressed as one have to pay double for this plan, in India.

So is the price 49.88 per phone, or is it that price for a whole family? I am interested to find out.

Phones are essential these days especially when you're traveling, it's pays to be ready during emergencies and when you're lost in the road as well. I love that you're also ready for your little girl. Kids get bored easily and it's nice to have activities ready for them.

This might be the perfect solution for my mom. Her plan is so expensive and lives solely on SS. THANK YOU!!

This sounds like a great plan. The activity box is very similar to what I had for travel essentials when my kids were little. Now. All it takes is a snack box.

I got this for my son earlier this year and it was the best decision ever. With a new phone and unlimited data, you really can't go wrong. Now as soon as our contracts are over, we're all switching.

I find phones a necessity especially during travels. Not just for contacts and numbers just in case we need quick help, Phones can be real handy for picture taking and even typing/ storing important details/ moments when you dont have a pen and paper with you.
