Ahhhhh this is one of those post where you are either going to love me or hate me! January 1st begins the whole war between the "New Year New Me" peeps with there constant gym selfies & check ins & the people that laugh when they see these statuses posted all over the interwebs. I find myself to be one of the odd ones in the middle of this whole New Years war. I do tend to roll my eyes when I see people post ridiculously, most likely Unachievable goals, but being the biggest believer of the law of attraction & a former gym obsessed gal pre- mommy days, I want to be supportive & believe anything is possible. If you really believe you can lose 100lbs in a month, we'll keep believing gurlie. Maybe you will discover the break thru diet the world has been waiting for & not only be a whole lot slimmer, but a whole lot richer thanks to your discovery ;-) So being the person in the middle of this war, I thought I would give y'all my realistic tips on how you can achieve a slimmer bod without over doing it & burning out after a week. Being an ex-model I like to think I have fabulous tips on this topic. So here we go.... 1. A huge percentage of weight-loss success is mental. That's right. Going back to the gurlie I was talking about above, if she really wants to lose that 100lbs she has to believe it. Changing your lifestyle is a mental game & your mindset is just as important as nutrition and exercise. There are so many times you need to fight through wanting to give up because it's a lot of work, but if your mind is in the right spot, you’ll get through those times. Learning to change your perspective so that the healthy choice is the only obvious choice can mean the difference between steady progress and failure. Alter your perspective and you’ll change your bod for the better! 2. Hydrate: Drink at least 64 ounces of water a day! I am one of the crazies that does this daily & have been doing so for more years than I can remember! Water works guys! It really really works! Oddly enough, one of the best ways to get rid of water weight, is to drink water. Kid you not, you really will shed afew lbs doing this alone. Seems kind of contradictory, but it’s true. When you are trying to lose weight, it’s absolutely essential to make sure you are drinking enough water. It helps keep you full longer, gives you more energy to exercise, and helps keep you from getting dehydrated. When you are exercising more, you are sweating a lot more, which can lead to dehydration if you aren’t replacing that water that is being lost. 3. Always Choose The Stairs This seems like a no brainier, but so many people avoid stairs like the plague, my hubby included -_- The Centers for Disease Control says that 10 minutes a day walking up and down stairs is all it takes to help you shed as much as 10 pounds a year (assuming you don’t start eating more). So if you work in a building with lots of stairs, TAKE THEM! Bored at home when the toddler is napping? Do some stair walking. Pinterest is a fabulous place to look up some stair workouts if you want to spice things up ;-) 4. Put your fork or spoon down between every bite. Sounds silly doesn't it? But if your have ever traveled globally, you will see this is a very popular way to eat in other countries. Most of these people you see doing this don't even realize why they do this since they grew up thinking this is the proper way to eat. After seeing countless people do this during my travels, I finally had a French lady explain it's to avoid over eating! Must be true because I don't think I've ever seen an over weight French gal ;-) Truth is, Your brain lags your stomach by about 20 minutes when it comes to fullness signals. If you eat slow enough, your brain will catch up to tell you that you are no longer in need of food. Only in America do we try to eat dinner as fast as possible & for this we end up eating a hell of a lot more than we should. We need to slow down folks and savor our food like the rest of the world. Our waistlines will thank us for it! 5. Order one drink and dance it off! Still hitting the bar scene?! Then use the model trick! When I was modeling this was a legit thing other models would do. People like the Anna Nicole Smiths of the world give models a bad name. Truth is in all the years I modeled I never met one anorexic and only one druggie. The rest of the girls? Straight up gym junkies & honestly kind of boring to be around since gymtalk is all anyone talks about. When on the road though, night clubs can be a lot of fun. To a gym junkie though one drink filled with empty calories is a total nightmare. So instead of just sitting at the bar, enjoy your drinkie then grab your girls and burn that drink by hitting the dance floor. Not only will you burn those calories, you will have a pretty good time as well. 6. Throw out your “fat” clothes for good. Once you’ve started losing weight, throw out or give away every piece of clothing that doesn’t fit. The idea of having to buy a whole new wardrobe if you gain the weight back will serve as a strong incentive to stay fit. Who wants to go shopping for new fat clothes when you can stay on track and go bikini shopping instead? 7. Use hot sauce, salsa and Cajun seasonings. This tip comes from all the Brazilian girls I ever worked with!!! These girls are beautiful & they claim they have spicy foods to thank for there hot bods!!! I'm spicy food obsessed so I always wondered if this was one of the reasons why I was always on the thinner side. After googling what these girls were even talking about I found out that spicy foods provide lots of flavor with no fat and few calories, plus they turn up your digestive fires, causing your body to temporarily burn more calories. So always choose spicy anything over butter, creamy or sugary sauces. Brazilians are beautiful so it works. 8. Brush your teeth or use mouth wash after every meal, especially dinner. Some people swear by chewing gum to keep their sweet tooth at bay, but peppermint mouthwash is what does it for me! Keep a bottle handy at your desk at work, in the kitchen, or anywhere else where a snack attack is bound to happen. And, use it right away after a meal so that clean, minty freshness will serve as a cue to your body and brain that mealtime is over.. 9. You can't trust the grocery store to make good choices for you. The grocery store is specifically designed to make you spend money on things you don’t actually need. Marketing folks spend countless hours making labels look shiny and pretty to make you buy whatever it is they are trying to sell! To ensure that you stay on the right track at home, enter the grocery store with a list instead of relying on your impulses. If you say "no" to junk food in the store, you only have to say "no" once. If you bring junk home, you have to say "no" every time you see it on the shelf. Don’t bring things that tempt you home! 10. The All-New Turbo10 Meal Plan From Nutrisystem. Can't make it threw the grocery store without impulse buying? Don't know how to say no to that bag of chips? Then Nutrisystem might be the program for you! OMG, I have done nothing but pig out for the last 3 weeks. Ever since the boys started vacation all I have done is eat AND I haven't worked out once. Even now that they are back in school, the pigging out continues. I SO need to get back on track.

I really like #4! It's small but would probably have the biggest impact for me. I tend to hold my fork in the "ready position" while I chew, just waiting to scoop up the next bite.

You're speaking my language woman! LOVE this! I especially love your hydrating tip and taking the stairs! My last "real" job was on the 5th floor and I took the stairs religiously every single time. It wasn't that many, but I assure you by the 5th floor, my heart rate was definitely elevated. I also used to take walks or a yoga class during lunch.

It's really mostly about what you eat, I believe that too. Exercise is just the support. When I had the twins, I shed the pounds off by walking up and down the stairs twice a day.

Drinking enough water is a HUGE need for me if I want to shed excess pounds. Setting down your utensil between bites is something I used to do all the time, but will admit it has gone by the wayside as the ups and downs at the dinner table have me wanting to eat my dinner while it is still warm. Great reminder!

I also think menu planning and prep is your friend if you're trying to stick to nutritional goals, weight loss or otherwise--when you plan ahead and don't have to scramble, the chances of hitting a drive through or pizza delivery decrease :) We're just trying to watch our portion sizes and move around more this year.
