It's official. My daughter really is a preschooler!!
If you are on any of my personal pages, you know that I was pretty upset when I found out our neighborhood elementary school doesn't offer programs for kiddos that need any special learning services & I would have to bus my child to another school in the area if I wanted my daughter to receive speech threw the school district. Not a happy camper that I pay to live in a really nice neighborhood based on the school & my child can't even attend due to her speech delay. Then to top it off, they wanted me to put my child on a school bus, when she hasn't riden a bus before. No BUS RUN THROUGH -_- The only bus she has ever seen is The Magic School Bus on Netflix, so imagin the surprise my 3 year old would have when one were to pull up in front of our house! But wait, there's more.... I also had to wait until the second week of school to meet her teacher!!
I don't know if it's because I'm over protective since this is my one and only child & she does have communication issues due to the lack of speech she has, but UGhHhHhhhhhh!!!!!!! Frustrated doesn't even being to explain my feeling leading up to her first day!
I feel when dealing with little ones this young, 3 in my daughters case, open house and back to school night should definitely be BEFORE school starts! Let's just say we are on week two & my child has yet to ride the bus because of this nonsense! And I'm a work at home mom who would LOVE to put my daughter on one! I would have 20-30 extra minutes of work time if I didn't have to drive her and scoop her up daily. Imagine what could be accomplished in that time!
Her teacher on the first day of school did completely win me over though! At drop off that morning she gave Haylie the biggest complement on her dress & also told me it was in her speech file from her previous therapist that Haylie is always dressed to the nines & she couldn't wait to see her outfits daily. If you know me, you know I sorta live threw my kiddo threw fashion so that complement totally made my life. This teacher totally deserved a back to school present for open house for making me feel I was doing something right.
The second week of school came and we finally had open house! I got to see Haylie's school, classroom & meet her teacher for real & not just in a drop off situation. Just wish my daughter would of been a tad bit more photogenic that day. She was so against me taking pictures lol.
I was totally impressed! A week into school & they already had art covering the walls in the classroom, a slide show of all the kiddos playing & tons more!
It also made me realize something I can't really believe I'm saying.... I was being a spoiled, judgemental brat by thinking this school was going to be awful because it wasn't in my "bubble" nice neighborhood. There was absolutely nothing wrong with her classroom. If anything it was better than I imagined it would be. I also had a chance to see some of the other kiddos and parents and they all looked like GOOD people. It kind of put me in my place and really made me think about how I was being awful and being the biggest hypocrite ever since I preach no hating and no treating people different. I was totally being the kind of person I don't like to be around. I totally needed this slap in the face. I now get why you did this to me universe lol. You totally put me in my place and I needed that big time.
I do however still feel that open house for 3 years olds should be before school to calm both kiddos & parents nerves & is something I plan to bring up at the PTA meeting next week.
Anyway... On to the crafty project my daughter and I made!!! Super easy & super cheap!! I stumbled across this craft on Instagram on @MrsSheetsAndCo page. When I saw the saying "I'm going to be one smart cookie with you as my teacher" I knew we had to make it!!!! Cutest idea of all times and I totally had to put my own spin on it!
My daughter is dot paint obsessed, so she dot painted afew index cards so we could make a tag for the saying, then filled the mason jar with cookies & tied some pretty ribbon!
So if you need a teacher gift that won't break the bank, here you go!

Ok, that is insanely cute. What an awesome idea. Seriously, what teacher wouldn't love that??
Aw, what an adorable gift! I think the problem you're facing has to do with your daughter being in preschool since it's not mandatory. I would think they would have to accommodate her at your neighborhood school when she is in Kindergarten (or first grade depending on whether Kindergarten is mandatory in your state... it's not in mine). I'm glad that you like your school for your daughter though!

Hey there! So I just dropped Capri (also 3) off at her 2nd day of preschool and she just about lost her lid when I left. She was NOT happy. And we did have an orientation BEFORE she actually started school but here is where I think they screwed up. The kids obviously came with us to the orientation and the teacher said normally they would go to another room and watch a movie but since this was a small class (7 kids) the kids could just hang out in the classroom with us (parents and teachers) and play while we talked. It was actually really nice but now Capri just thinks she is going for playtime when she goes there and doesn't want to participate in the project they are doing. She also thinks I am just going to stay with her. I was sad when I left her today but I know she will learn to love it. I am SHOCKED though that your area wants to bus 3 year olds. That is craaaaazy in my mind. Of course I think about safety...car seats, seat belts, them just not listening and not sitting down, etc. I have heard from other parents that Capri's class will ride on a bus to the local grocery store that is literally 2 minutes down the road to get them on a bus and to experience. I like that idea. I would be driving her to school anyways if they were to ride a bus.

My now 21 year old had speech problems and had to be bused to a different school at the age of 3. I was glad that he was able to attend preschool as it helped him to be able to talk.

What a cute little gift! I think teachers deserve all the gifts we can give them. They do such an important job with our kids.

First of all I LOVE your craft! Second of all - everything you have said and are feeling is the entire reason I pulled my children out of public school and started homeschooling until they were older. My daughter has CP and type 1 diabetes. She has had neurosurgery and 5 ankle surgeries, not to mention what she has to do to take care of blood sugars. I was sick and tired of fighting people who had no clue!

This is adorable! My kids' teachers would love this :)

I can't believe they didn't have an orientation or practice run on the bus before school started! Our school usually has those things for the kids going into Junior Kindergarten in June. That way the kids get an idea of what it will be like before school even starts!

I love the whole you totally owned up to your mistake. It shows a great character. Your daughter needs that in her life. And the project and the crafts .... they really are something. I love the whole mason jar thing, the hand paints and what not ... Looks like it will be a treat this year.

That is a great teacher gift! We started preschool this year- just 2 days a week- and there is no bus, so my mind is totally at ease. Next year they will do field trips and then I have to figure out safety and such as she needs accommodations.

How creative! I have such high regard for pre-school teachers. They are our kids' moms while they are in school. A child's first teacher will always be her favorite.

I'm glad it's turning out ok for you. My children haven't had delay issues, but for preschool I always send them to private school through at least kindergarten. We have meet the teacher the week before school starts at ours. I think small half day preschools are a much easier transition for the little ones. My youngest is in her last year at her preschool in kindergarten this year, and I've been really happy with it since she started at the age of 3.

I guess that's 3 S's (Sweet's)... The teacher for winning over your heart by complimenting your daughter, you, for being thoughtful and the cookies, literally sweet! LOL! I wish my daughter got accepted in pre-K too, but nah, maybe next year. :D

I'm happy that everything turned out better. My little guy started preschool this year too. =)

This reminds me of the time my son had to go to a school out of his area because he needed a intensive French class (his speaks English). The ride was about 30 minutes each day due to traffic. I'm just glad bus was provided bc I don't drive and that would have been a big issue. I see pictures of your daughter all dressed up and she is so adorable! I can't wait to have my daughter and dress her up like that too hehehe
