Ahhhhhh August!!! The last month of summer break AND the month Instagram gets spammed with sunflower selfies! Every single year since my daughter was born I have promised myself that I would take her to a sunflower field & every single year I would totally drop the ball on that sunflower selfie quest and miss out on all the photo fun. Thank goodness I was bored out of my mind Thursday evening & spotted a friend talking sunflowers as I was scrolling Facebook. I instantly reached for my phone & made a Saturday Sunflower calendar appointment. This was going to be the year I actually made it to the sunflowers!! Sunflowers of SanbornIf you haven’t stopped to see the thousands of sunflowers that have popped up in Sanborn, you definitely should! Six acres of sunflowers — an estimated 170,000 flowers were planted this year along Route 31 Sanborn New York. My daughter and I had the chance to check them out and I can tell you it is worth the hour and forty-five minute drive from Chautauqua County. We had the best day ever stilling the beautiful field of sunflowers. Explore the TownSunflowers of Sanborn also introduced something new this year for the kiddos! Mini town, with a Western theme, consisting of five huts stationed behind the sunflower field. A general store, creamery, cafe with grilled hot dogs and burgers, and a sunflower-based novelty shop with garden trinkets are among the attractions. You will also find a Gem Mine. After purchasing a bag of sand ($6, or two for $10), kids can pour the contents of their bag into a basket with small holes. Water from a waterfall then rushes through the basket, removing the sand and unveiling roughly 20-25 brightly colored gems. Guests may also purchase and decorate a rock to place under the Tree of Hope. All the proceeds benefit the Breast Cancer Network of Western New York. CostReady for the best news of all?!?! The farm is FREE to visit. That’s right FREE!!! Parking is also free. The Brachmanns who own the farm and who pay for seed, labor, fuel and water all out of their own pockets, say there's no price on making the community smile. The sunflower field is expected to remain open through the second weekend in September, so make sure you get up to Sunflowers of Sanborn and take that selfie for the gram! What a fun way to spend the day in the sun! I've never been to a sunflower farm before but I can just image the photo possibilities. I've been thinking about planting some in the garden, they're sure happy flowers.
