As most of you know my Lil'Princess HaylieLynne has a major speech delay. Even though she doesn't have food allergies herself & special diets didn't really work out with improving her speech (trust me we tried hoping food would be the "cure" & we would all of a sudden have a blabber mouth) a lot of the kiddos she interacts with daily are on special diets because these diets do help with there ADHD, ASP, ADD & every other diagnosis that has initials symptoms. I'm a firm believer that diets can help certain folks! These kiddos my daughter plays with daily are living proof. Just because diet didn't work for my child doesn't mean it won't work wonders for yours. With that being said, while I was doing my weekly read every blog post a mom with a speech delayed kid has written, I kept on stumbling upon moms posting about the #TealPumpkinProject . I thought this sounded pretty fantastic & it actually made me kind of sad I never thought of giving trick or treaters non candy treats in the past. I'm sure I've had dozens of disappointed kiddos at my door once they saw they couldn't eat what I was giving them :( So to prevent future disappointment Haylie & I decided it would be fun to make a glam teal pumpkin so all of the kids with food allergies and those kiddos she knows can stop by our house for a safe treat! This small gesture could totally make a big difference to a kid so we are happy those kiddos can leave our front door with a smile :) What is the teal pumpkin project?
Launched as a national campaign by Food Allergy Research & Education (FARE) in 2014, the Teal Pumpkin Project™ raises awareness of food allergies and promotes inclusion of all trick-or-treaters throughout the Halloween season. This nationwide movement offers an alternative for kids with food allergies, as well as other children for whom candy is not an option, and keeps Halloween a fun, positive experience for all! Basically put a teal pumpkin on your porch to let trick or treaters know you have safe, non food items for them to enjoy! I was just at the dollar store the other day & they have TONS of Halloween non food party favors that would make excellent non candy options! I really hope you choose to participate! I love this! My good friend's son has a severe tree nut allergy, so they have been doing this for a few years now.

I really love the idea behind this and will now be sure to offer non-food items to trick-or-treaters. As a family without any allergies (thankfully), I think it's still really important to have an awareness of others.

What a great way to raise awareness. Food helps a lot when it comes to improving our kids' health, performance in school and their development. I think this is such a good program to be involved in, to be honest.

We have our teal pumpkin outside and ready for our trick-or-treaters on Saturday for sure!! The first time I heard about this initiative this year, I got so excited to take part in it; it is important to acknowledge and help brighten a child with food allergies' day!
