Anyone else have a beyond picky little one and hubby?!? I swear the universe cursed me in the foodie department. Me, a total chef wannabe and I live with the two biggest food haters of all times! They literally hate everything & could care less about meal time. Food is just food to them where it's everything to me! Makes grocery shopping a complete nightmare knowing my cart resembles a fast food joint more than a posh NYC restaurant. Nothing chef-like about that what so ever.
The only decent grocery request I can get out of either Haylie & hubby most weeks is there beloved TruMoo Chocolate Milk! Swear the two of them would live off of the stuff so I keep our refrigerator stocked at all times. If either of them try and weasel themselves out of a meal I can at least rest assured that TruMoo will give them enough nutrition until they come around & eat an actual meal.
The kiddo & hubby might love what's in TruMoo, but this mama loves what is not! NO artificial growth hormones! NO high fructose corn syrup! Plus there are 8 essential nutrients that kids need for critical development stage! TruMoo really is a nutritiously delicious win-win for moms, hubby's and kids. That’s why there’s truly no debate why I have been choosing TruMoo for Haylie & Hubby for years! If you know me in non-interwebs life, you know this to be 100% fact & not for the sake of this post ;-) My refrigerator might as well be a mini TruMoo Milk Dispensery.
As much as Haylie would like, she can't solely live off of TruMoo Chocolate milk. A kiddo needs variety right? That's why most days she starts her day off with a glass of DairyPure milk! Same nutritional fabulosness as TruMoo, just not flavored! DairyPure brand milk and TruMoo are great products to have your children “Start Right, End Right” everyday. Awesome for on the go mornings! Just pour a sippy cup and go.
Since Haylie is both TruMoo Chocolate Milk & Sofia the First obsessed I just had to make her a Sofia the First TruMoo Chocolate cake for her forth birthday. I might be a wanna be chef, but definitely not a baker, so if I can pull this TruMoo cake off, so can you. You need to be more crafty than baker. Also, you might see 17839 steps below, but I was trying to make this as blonde proof as possible! Step by step photos the whole way so it's not as overwhelming as it might look. Quite the opposite.
Ingredients
2 boxes of your favorite chocolate cake mix White Fondant ( 1 box & 1 pouch) Purple Food Coloring Frosting 1 Cup Chocolate Chips 1 Sofia the First Barbie-Like Doll The Number Of Eggs Cake Mix Say Oil Amount Cake Mix Says Cooking Spray Round Bowl/Pan Replace Any Milk & Water With TruMoo Chocolate Milk Decorative Candy
Add your cake mixes, eggs, oil, chocolate chips into a bowl or your mixer
Spray your round, oven safe, bowl with cooking spray.
Add your TruMoo into the mix, remember you are swapping ALL water and milk your cake mix suggest with TruMoo Chocolate Milk!
Add your mixture to your sprayed round bowl.
Cook for about 45minutes on 350. Poke a fork or kabob stick in the cake to make sure your cake is fully cooked before turning your oven off.
After removing cake from the round pan, take your undressed Sofia doll and poke her into the cake. If your cake cracks a little you're fine. The frosting and fondant will cover that right up. I was lucky and got Sofia in pretty close to perfect. Total beginners luck ;-)
Take your frosting and cover the cake. This does NOT have to look great at all since the cake will be covered in fondant shortly. The frosting acts more as a glue than anything else.
Now on to the hardest part! Making your fondant purple. Just add a few drops of your purple food coloring and kneed your fondant for what feels like an eternity.
After your fondant is the perfect shade of Sofia purple, roll you fondant out, place it ontop of the glass bowl you baked your cake in & cut a circle out of the top. Make sure this circle is large enough to go over Sofia's head.
Take your fondant, place it over Sofia and on to your cake! Those uneven edges from your circle and stretched out parts from going over the doll?! Just tuck those into the hole Sofia is in. No more yucky edeges!
Cut the extra fondant and tuck what's left under the cake. Again no more uneven, yucky edges!
Take a piece of your left over purple fondant, roll it out and make a shirt for your doll. Basically just mold it onto the doll & the dolls shape will eventually make it look like a shirt. Once again you might have yucky uneven edges or bumps. I had bumps as you can see above so I just covered those up with the candies.
Now take that packet of fondant. Open it and roll it out! Take anything round shaped in your kitchen and cut large and small circles.
Using left over frosting, dab a little onto the backs of the circles and then stick them onto the cake.
Take the leftover fondant from the circles and roll a "snake" out of it. I hang out with a four year old so I don't know what else to call this ;-)
Take your "snake" dab a little frosting onto it to use as glue and decorate your cake with it!
Then take those candies, use frosting as glue and decorate your cake with them! Then take the rest and spill them around your cake. Hiding any uneven edges. I swear these candies save this cake & turn it into fabulosness!
Ta-Da!!!! We now have a Sofia TruMoo Chocolate Cake!
Enjoy!

I love this and the cake turned out amazing. I'm still just dipping my toe into using fondant, and you made this look so easy. :) I'm not sure mine would turn out as well, but I'll keep working with it. Also, I'm a big fan of using box mixes as a base and adding in ingredients from there.

I've made a cake covered with fondant the other day, and the fondant cracked here and there. Not letting myself down about it, I just said it's the "work of art" hehehe. Your cake though looks amazing! I admire your skill to manage the fondant look smooth and perfect. It's a beatuiful Princess cake.
